We offer this flexible service because we understand everyone has different learning style, and life can be too hectic sometimes to fit in a set course. Once enrolled, you'll have continued access to your instructor, a native Mandarin Chinese speaker, via email, audio/video calls, Slate/Facebook/Whatsapps chats, and thousands of news articles written for Chinese learners. You can make your learning online only, or we can meet up occasionally for face-to-face conversations. We'll also be happy to invite students in this program to have a group chat online/off-line, if people want that. Choose how often and when you want to study based on your own pace, learning pattern and schedule. Pay just what you need the most. Let's fill out a survey form and we'll provide you with a customized plan with a quote to get the ball rolling!
Work with the instructor to develop your weekly personal learning plan with an agreed duration (minimum three weeks). Face-to-face meeting is great, but we can also accommodate a video or audio call for people who are too busy or not near us (we are in Berkeley, CA).
Once your plan is completed, you'll be given a tutorial on how to access the news articles and how to use the tools to help you study and self-evaluation. Browse through the news database and discuss with your instructor which articles you want to study. You'll receive your assignment online at the beginning of your study cycle.
Step 2: Your Weekly Guided Studies
Each week, you'll start with a face-to-face or online meeting with your instructor to go through the article(s) assigned that week. In the days that follow, you'll study at your convenient time, with the help of the online tools, such as real-time dictionary, audio clips, vocabulary list, stroke order practice and grammar explanation. When done, complete the online tests. The results will be automatically submmitted to the instructor. Got burning questions? Email your instructor for a daily response! Otherwise, we 'll see you in the next weekly meeting, where we'll conduct review and teaching of the new article(s).
You're welcome to book additional one-on-one instruction time for conversations in Mandarin or other learning activities, if once a week is not enough.
Step 3: End of Learning Period
By the end of it, you'll receive an evaluation report that includes quantitative and qualitative analysis as well as recommendation for future learning. We then work out the next learning plan together. If you wish to go solo, we'll provide a discount coupon for your personal subscription of the media database you have been using to help you continue the study on your own.
